White sage is a fragrant plant traditionally used for cleansing and spiritual rituals. It comes from the plant Salvia Apiana, which is native to the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico, especially areas like California.
It has a strong, earthy, herbal scent and is commonly burned in bundles (often called “smudge sticks”) to cleanse spaces, objects, or people.
How to use:
- Light the stick. Hold the end of the sage bundle and light it for about 20–30 seconds.
- Blow out the flame. Let it smolder so it produces steady smoke..
- Cleanse your space or yourself. Wave the smoke around your body, room, or objects you want to “cleanse.” Many people set an intention while doing this.
- Extinguish safely. Place the stick in a fireproof bowl or dish. It will usually go out on its own.
